Things to consider when thinking about a new kitchen

So you want a new kitchen?

Great decision!

Upgrading your kitchen with new cabinets, new countertops, stainless appliances, tile backsplash, and refinishing or replacing floors, not only will inspire your daily life, but the upgrades will also increase the value of your home. Often that increase is greater than the project's cost.

Southern Kitchen Design can upgrade all of these items or just a few. We can make a plan that fits your budget. When thinking about a kitchen remodel, here are a few things to consider:

  • What cabinet styles have you seen that you like? Most of the kitchen remodels that we do include new cabinets and countertops. White shaker-style doors are still very popular, however, custom-painted colors can add a unique pop to make your kitchen one-of-a-kind!
  • What do you currently like about your kitchen? What do you not like about your kitchen? Do you have enough countertop space for cooking and serving? Do your doors and drawers close quietly? Do the current colors fit your style? We can update your kitchen based on your likes and dislikes, and if you hate the whole thing, that's okay! It gives us a blank slate to build a kitchen you'll love.
  • Can you be without a kitchen for up to 3 weeks while the remodel is happening? Most kitchen remodels take one full week to do the demolition and installation of cabinets. Add another week to 10 days for the new countertops to arrive. The plumbing and appliances can be installed the day after the countertops.
  • Will you need a new floor in the near future? Normally, there is little to no damage to floors and walls, However, if the "footprint" of the old cabinets differs from the new ones, floor and/or wall repair may be necessary. We recommend re-painting the remodeled area after we are finished to really sharpen the look of the new kitchen.
  • What is your budget? We have to ask. The best way to set up a kitchen remodel for success is to know what our constraints are, if any. You can cut costs in several ways if you need to, and we can guide you through those decisions during the planning and design process to ensure you're saving money without sacrificing quality.
